About this listen
A darkly gothic thriller from best-selling author Sarah Gailey.
'Come home.' Vera's mother called and Vera obeyed. In spite of their long estrangement, in spite of the memories—she's come back to the home of a serial killer. Back to face the love she had for her father and the bodies he buried there, beneath the house he'd built for his family.
Coming home is hard enough for Vera, and to make things worse, she and her mother aren't alone. A parasitic artist has moved into the guest house out back and is slowly stripping Vera's childhood for spare parts. He insists that he isn't the one leaving notes around the house in her father's handwriting...but who else could it possibly be?
There are secrets yet undiscovered in the foundations of the notorious Crowder House. Vera must face them and find out for herself just how deep the rot goes.

Not a favourite but a good old house mystery.
Someone raved about this book so I had high expectations, meh, it’s just okay. I felt quite uncomfortable for most of the story because of the manipulations of the character living in the shed.
The narration did no favours to the story, sounding the same for every single character.
Interesting twist at the end.

Wonderful!
Vera is summoned back to the home her father built when her mother becomes too sick to deal with cleaning it out. Her mother doesn’t love her, or even like her, and what follows is a slow burn of terror and family wrapped up in a layer of darkness.
This book was AMAZING. I would give it more stars if I could. The back and forth from the past to the present, Vera’s memories of her father, and the questions of good and bad were masterfully interwoven. The ending was supremely satisfying and made you question - just who is bad anyway?
