About this listen

Ripley's a tomboy at heart who has never met a stranger. Her plans were to finish her veterinary studies and take her family to the country, where life wouldn't be such a struggle. She thought the worst she'd have to deal with at the University of Maryland were the unwelcome advances and attitudes of affluent students, and the occasional East Coast hurricane.

She never expected the sun to fall down.

An immense coronal mass ejection, the likes of which the modern world has never seen, blankets the Earth and destroys the power grid worldwide.

Ripley has no communication with her family at home and - thanks to the University's zero-tolerance policy - no weapons to protect herself. Society is becoming increasingly panicked and desperate, and the government seems slow to respond.

The world, as she knew it, has ended. A new world of lawlessness, betrayal, and scarcity is beginning.

Can she become the woman she needs to be so that she and her friends can make it home?

With the thin veneer of a civilized society collapsing, can she even survive?

One of the best

What made the experience of listening to Journey the most enjoyable?

Two separate stories, of college students struggling to get home and their grandmother at home. I've read a lot of post-disaster stories and this is absolutely one of the best. A gripping account of how real people, not especially well prepared, only gradually come to terms with a suddenly changed world. The female protagonists make it especially vivid and fresh. I don't want to give away the story, but the episode in the warehouse, and the epilogue to the second book, are two scenes I'll never forget.

A bit of a strange plot

This seems to be a wish fulfilment plot where if you think a lot, you will survive. These characters think a lot & then make rather questionable decisions...

My kind of book

Loved this book and will be sure to read the next one. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was that it was too short and I felt that it ended in the middle of too many storylines.

Good story, a little too preachy

I nearly automatically returned the book due to the preword. Not that I have any negativity towards preppers, I returned it because I felt like I was being preached at whilst trying to enjoy a fiction novel.

After listening to the entire book, I believe this could just be due to the authors voice as it does come across during the story. Perhaps the preword would have worked better as a note at the end of the story?

Overall, well developed characters and good progression.
Some parts feel a little too in-depth. Which at the end of the day can be better than not enough depth.

Also, the switch between voice actors does take you out of the story. I would have preferred just one voice actor.

Nice concept but....

Was excited to read this book but hours later and nothing has happened. just a lot of people talking and cooking chickens. unfortunately i found out more about canning chickens than anything else.
