About this listen
In recent years, Christians everywhere are rediscovering the Jewish roots of their faith. Every year at Easter time, many believers now celebrate Passover meals (known as Seders) seeking to understand exactly what happened at Jesus' final Passover, the night before he was crucified. Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist shines fresh light on the Last Supper by looking at it through Jewish eyes. Using his in-depth knowledge of the Bible and ancient Judaism, Dr. Brant Pitre answers questions such as:
- What were the Jewish hopes for the Messiah?
- What was Jesus' purpose in instituting the Eucharist during the feast of Passover?
- And, most important of all, what did Jesus mean when he said, "This is my body...This is my blood"?
Inspiring and informative, Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist is a groundbreaking work that is sure to illuminate one of the greatest mysteries of the Christian faith: the mystery of Jesus' presence in "the breaking of the bread".

Catholicism at its best!
This book is filled with facts, scripture references, and draws on ancient writings to present the most complete understanding of the Holy Eucharistic. It is great for anyone interested in defending their catholic faith and the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist

Brilliant biblical foundations for the Eucharist
a wonderful biblical description of the Catholic doctrine of the mass and Holy Eucharist. In particular the author demonstrates the ancient Jewish bread miracles and how they foreshadow the Catholic doctrine of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. He also explains how Jewish liturgy, in particular the Passover liturgy, are constant signposts that point to the Christian liturgy as the New Covenant Passover where God's people receive the miraculous Bread of Life which, biblically, is not the real absence of Christ, but the real presence of Christ.

An absolute treasure
This book is an absolute treasure. As one who spent 45 years identifying as a Protestant it was only in 2018 that I converted to the Catholic faith. As a Protestant ‘communion’ was little more than a symbolic act. In fact over the years I witnessed it go from a weekly occurrence during the church service to monthly. Towards the end of my time in a charismatic church the wine became orange juice served in a sealed container and the bread was no more than a dry cracker in the same plastic container. It was a hurried event squeezed in between the worship and the weekly news. It had little meaning for me, or I imagine, the majority of the congregation.
After nine months of RCIA I had a slightly better understanding of the Eucharist but there was still something not quite right. I had read many stories of the Saints and how much of their strength came from the Eucharist. I wanted what they had! So I prayed and asked God to show me the Eucharist as he sees it. He led me to this book and to be honest I feel overwhelmed, not with frustration but with pure love and thankfulness. I need to listen to it again and then probably again and again because there are so many facets to this book. It is like a diamond. A true gem.
