Romanen "Jenny" fra 1911 blev Sigrid Undsets helt store gennembrudsroman. Den delvist selvbiografiske roman er et medrivende portræt af en kvinde, der ikke passer ind i sin egen tid. Sigrid Undset (1882-1949) blev født i Kalundborg og opvoksede i Norge. Hun skrev en lang række populære og anmelderroste romaner og modtog nobelprisen i litteratur i 1928.
