About this listen

Orphaned at a young age. Rejected by her stepfamily. Shipped off to boarding school. Has Jane finally found her fairy tale as a live-in tutor for the daughter of the infamously moody yet strangely compelling rap artist Edward Richmond, aka “E.R.”?

Maybe Beauty and the Beast. Except she’s no beauty - just plain Jane. And his rock-and-roll lifestyle disturbs and even endangers her. It’s safer following her principles than passion. Besides, he obviously prefers the striking and equally famous Bianca.

Yet Jane finds herself simultaneously attracted and repelled by this reputed “bad boy” who seems oddly determined to win her approval.

Caught up in E.R.’s complicated - and darker than she imagined - world, Jane must find a way forward. But will that drive her away from yet another home?

True to the spirit of love, self-discovery, and mystery in Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel Jane Eyre, this dramatic yet genuine and often surprisingly funny modern retelling, faithfully reimagined chapter by beloved chapter, will captivate fans of the original and unfamiliar listeners of all ages alike.

Yuk

Jane Eyre is my most favourite book so I read this book with curiosity and anticipation. Jane herein an American accent grated, the explicit religious motivations throughout annoyed. This is no modern retelling of Jane Eyre just conscious push of conservative religion. It made me cross. Jane eyre pulled at my emotions and still does this never did. Perhaps the characters didn’t have the depth to do so. I would never recommend this book.

A Modern clever revival of a Classic!

Being such a fan of the Original Classic Jane Eyre, I was very unsure of a modern retelling, I took a long time to decide on if I should risk listening to this book.... how pleased I took the risk, This is a remarkable tale, beautifully and carefully told in the modern world while being so respectful to the original work. I found it intriguing to wonder how various elements of the original could possibly be moved forward and then found myself riveted and delighted at the way the author had managed it. Characters often stereotyped to be mean and gritty in the original, do not appear so it this. Instead depicted as misunderstood or unthoughtful actions which in the end, challenges the character to grow, not just the main characters change, but all are shown undergoing change. The gritty appears in looking at perhaps the reality of the modern world from the damages sustained from substance abuse, physical abuse to the way the modern world views love, sex and faith. Congratulations to the author on what is a very compelling story, I personally feel I have a new connection to the original Jane Eyre now I have view her decisions from the perspective of my world through Jane Heir! A new favourite! Thank you!
