In Slough House, the backwater for failed spies, memories are stirring, all of them bad.
Catherine Standish is buying booze again, Louisa Guy is raking over the ashes of lost love, and new recruit Lech Wicinski, whose sins make him outcast even among the slow horses, is determined to discover who destroyed his career, even if he tears his life apart in the process.
With winter taking its grip Jackson Lamb would sooner be left brooding in peace, but even he can't ignore the dried blood on his carpets. So when the man responsible for killing a slow horse breaks cover at last, Lamb sends his crew out to even the score.
This time, they're heading into joe country. And they're not all coming home.

Another excellent Jackson Lamb tale
The Slow Horses have been excellent company in lockdown. Beautifully written and paced as always. Darkly laugh out loud funny.

story and narration on point as always
i think story is great, and the narrator is fantastic . Having read all in the series to this point, the backstory details can get a bit tedious, but this book is not too heavily repetitive. And reading small bits at intervals, means a bit of repetition isn't a bad thing for me!

Love this series!
Mick Heron has done it again. He knows how to grab the audience, conjuring dry or darkly humorous metaphors to build intrigue and images. Clever twists and turns… I’m ready to binge on the next in the series.

It’s like waiting for a new season of Game of Thrones
Once you’ve latched onto the The Jackson Lamb series you’re hooked. Sean Barrett’s brilliant narration is so riveting and entertaining it’s impossible to put down and as irresistible as your guiltiest pleasure.
I simply don’t know how to wait for Mick Herron a new book. I want it NOW!!!

Jackson Lamb... My spirit animal!
Densely written, driveingly paced and wonderfully read.
This series leaves most, so called, thrillers behind in a dense cloud of intestinal gas.

Gripping. Masterful.
It keeps getting harder for the brilliant and witty Jackson Lamb to save his team. I may have no fingernails left, but I’m with him all the way.

A finely woven story
Heron has added another intricate square to the finely woven tapestry that is Slough House and the story of the Slow Horses.

Another outstanding Slough House book
Some have called Mick Herron a worthy successor to John Le Carre. I believe he is far superior to Le Carre. The best spy fiction available today.
