About this listen
When your faith as you know it has been commodified, nationalized, scandalized, and rebranded beyond recognition, is it even possible to recover the "good" of Jesus from this cluster of epic proportions?
Writer and podcaster Erin Moon has questions, and this book is her open letter for anyone who feels iffy, conflicted, or just downright devastated by this disconnect. With empathy, insight, and the therapy of memes and a good laugh, Erin maps out not a rigid prescription but an open-hearted pathway for you to reclaim what you once loved about your faith home and light a match to the rest.
As it turns out, God is not afraid of your questions. To the contrary, the fullness of the Christian story is found not in a certainty checklist but a vision of a people who wrestle with God. This is the story to which Erin turns and guides you through, as you understand the good, bad, ugly, and just plain bizarre of your faith origins; find permission to lament, ask questions, and name pressure points; and make peace as you set your own new boundaries and rebuild.
Consider this your open invitation to get gut-level honest about where it started, and heart-level hopeful about where it can go from here.

Brb- texting my therapist and my pastor to tell them they need to read this book.
I listened to the audio book, and as soon as it finished I made plans to get the hard copy.
This book is a gift to every disillusioned millennial church kid that now goes to therapy to try and understand why we were taught about the Bible from talking vegetables on vhs.
Erin has created a space for the reader to honestly reflect on their beliefs, and ask the hard questions about God, the Bible, the Church and ourselves.
Unlike many authors, she doesn’t try to coerce the reader to a certain belief outcome, but provides the means to journey (drink) and reflect on how we can untangle our messy, often conflicting thoughts and beliefs in a healthy way.
The pop culture references seamlessly incorporated throughout made it easily one of the more disarming and engaging books on this topic - and hearing Erin read it herself felt like I had been invited over to her place for dinner and a chat.
As a mental health professional, the parts about our brains being wired to believe, but also to resist change were spot on.
And as a fellow human, the parts around grief and pain brought me comfort.
As a fellow believer, having someone encourage me to ‘have it out with God’ and continue to explore my beliefs and ask ALL the questions, was a gift.
Thankyou Erin. Because of you and your vulnerability, a lot of people will find healing.
