About this listen

Escape to the sun and head off to Italy, with the wonderfully warm Leonie Mack!

TV journalist Lou feels battered and bruised after her divorce from Phil, the father of her daughter Edie. Her confidence and sense of fun have steadily been drained away, and she isn’t sure who she is any more.

When the opportunity arises to accompany Edie on a music camp in Italy for a month in the summer, Lou jumps at the chance for new adventures, new horizons and new friends. The hazy warmth of the summer sun, shining brightly over the stunning Lake Garda, slowly brings Lou back to life.

Nick Romano, Edie’s music teacher, loves being home in Italy, but coaching his students for their concert in Milan is bringing back difficult memories. His blossoming friendship with Lou is the perfect distraction, although a summer fling would be easier to conduct without the scrutiny of his mother Greta, not to mention the interference of his extended Italian family.

As the summer passes, full of sunshine and breath-taking scenery, gelato and delicious feasts, Lou and Nick get ever closer. But as the time for farewell creeps up on them, will they be able to say goodbye and leave their memories behind in the Italian sun, or can a summer romance last a lifetime?

Leonie Mack is back with a sizzling, sun-baked love story, perfect for all fans of Mandy Baggot, Jo Thomas and Carole Matthews.

Sweet but saucy

I always enjoy a book that has both the female and male perspective of the story. Two very loveable characters, slightly frustrating at times but all in all a great story. Loved the scenery descriptions and different locations. Great!

Atmospheric, romantic, funny, vulnerable and sweet. Loved the evocative images of Italy it brought to mind.

Italy Ever After This One!

Leonie Mack’s latest novel, 'Italy Ever After', takes a leaf out of her debut triumph, 'My Christmas Number One' – capturing two very different people from two very different cultures – and then flings the trope away to the south to soar on soft Mediterranean breezes and echo within the deep alcoves of vaulted Italian cloisters.

Nick and Lou find themselves thrust unexpectedly together while supervising a school music trip to Italy. Although their romance may seem a fun distraction for the duration of the trip, when it demands they confront their deepest held insecurities, both Lou and Nick must decide what kind of life they really want for themselves.

Mack artfully captures the softest and most charming aspects of the ultimate Italian escape. She deftly takes her reader on an authentic and engaging armchair adventure. Expect to lose yourself in her narrative, whether exploring a busy Milanese street or visiting a rustic farming family, Mack demonstrates a skilful grasp of her subject. You will share equally in the terror and elation of performing at the majestic Teatro alla Scala, the quiet peace of foraging for fungi in the forests, the long hazy summer days by the beautiful Lake Garda or the thrill of a mountain hike to the summit.

Karen Cass’ narration of this tale is skilful and engaging. She is an easy narrator to listen to – jumping seamlessly in and out of characters and driving the natural tensions of the story convincingly.

Even if romance is not your genre of choice, you’ll enjoy the talent behind this novel – Mack is a dynamic author who I’m sure has many more books ahead!

a bit now easy listening fun

I enjoy books like this, light, fun, romantic. Good to hear descriptions of Italy.
I didn't enjoy the narrator at all. Stilted, unnessary pauses, made it hard to get through.
