About this listen

It Wasn't Civil is not a history book. It is a brief and interesting look at a dark period in American history. A young country was struggling to stay united but being torn apart because of strong conflicting beliefs over slavery and how much power the government should have over individual states’ rights.

It Wasn't Civil was written for my 12-year-old grandson. He asked me to write a book that would help him learn about the Civil War since he wasn’t learning about it yet it in his school.

So, for Charles William Johnson, Jr. and other kids like him, here is a brief look at some of the more influential people involved in, events surrounding, weapons used, battles fought, and a few little-known interesting facts about the war fought on American battlefields that pitted brother against brother, friend against friend, and sometimes, father against son.
