ペリー艦隊が江戸湾に姿を見せて開国を迫った1853年、江戸幕府は防衛のために「台場」と呼ばれる砲台を築きました。お台場という地名は、この砲台に由来します。
現在、レインボーブリッジの下に浮かんでいる2つの小島には、当時、いくつもの大砲が据えられていました。
第二次世界大戦後に埋め立てが始まり、1974年に船の科学館が開館。以後、レインボーブリッジができ、フジテレビが移転してくると、多くの商業施設が誕生しました。
商業施設だけでなく、都内では珍しい砂浜が広がる海浜公園など、自然も魅力。また、屋形船でのお台場クルーズも人気です。©2017 KODANSHA
