食品や日用品など、店内の商品が100円均一で揃う100円ショップ。
昭和初期、有名デパートの髙島屋がチェーン展開した「十銭ストア」が、言わばその先駆けといわれています。
その後、1960年代にデパートやスーパーの催事で「100円コーナー」が誕生し、1985年に「100円ショップ」と名づけられた専門店が愛知県にオープンしました。
そして、1990年代初頭のバブル崩壊により不景気となった日本では、100円ショップが急増。
いまではダイソーやキャンドゥなどの大手チェーン店をはじめ、日本の100円ショップの数は6000店以上といわれます。
日本の100円ショップは商品のクオリティが高く、種類も豊富なことで知られています。
