正式名は「鎮火大祭」です。
この祭りは、北口本宮冨士浅間神社と諏訪神社の祭りで、400年以上の伝統を持っています。
26日、氏子町内を練り歩いた神輿が御旅所に安置されると、夜、通り沿いに約2kmにわたって並べられた約70本の大松明が一斉に点火されます。その様子は、まるで町が炎に包まれたかのよう。
27日、神社に戻った神輿と一緒に氏子たちが境内を回り、祭りは最高潮を迎えます。
長い歴史を誇る火祭りですが、これまで一度も火事になったことはありません。そのため、松明の消し炭は火除けのおまじないとされています。©2017 KODANSHA
