A traditional way to celebrate children's growth and pray for their good health is shichi-go-san, which typically occurs on November 15th.子どもの成長を祝い、 健康を願う伝統行事の一つが、一般に11月15日に行われる七五三です。
七五三は、生まれた年を1歳と考え、男の子は3歳と5歳、女の子は3歳と7歳でお祝いをします。室町時代に関東地方で始まり、江戸時代に全国に広まったといわれます。
当時は乳幼児の死亡率が高かったため、健やかな成長を願うために行われるようになりました。
3歳、5歳、7歳で祝うのは、江戸時代の武家社会で行われていた儀式にちなむといわれます。
七五三の日、子どもたちは晴れ着に身を包み、長寿を願う千歳飴を持って、神社に参拝するのが習わし。全国のあちこちで、親に手を引かれた着物姿の子どもたちが見られます。©2017 KODANSHA
