田植えが始まると、人々は初夏の到来を感じます。
日本では、水田に直接稲の種をまく方法ではなく、別の場所で育てた稲の苗を水田に植え替える栽培方法が一般的です。
1950〜60年代には、田植えの日は学校が休みになり、子どもも大人を手伝って苗を手作業で植えていました。
現在では田植え機を利用することで、短時間で効率的に植えられるようになりました。
夏、稲が育って緑一色になった田んぼは、秋には黄金色に変わり、稲刈りが行われます。この時期は、刈り終えた稲を干す光景があちこちで見られます。
