The seven days around the equinoxes are called ohigan. 春分の日、または秋分の日を中心とした前後7日間を、お彼岸といいます。
仏教用語である彼岸とは、向こう岸という意味で、現世の向こう側にある悟りの世界のこと。
お彼岸は、太陽が真西に沈むことから、多くの仏のなかでも阿弥陀如来のいる西方極楽浄土の信仰と結びついた、日本独自の行事です。
お彼岸の期間には極楽浄土にいる先祖に会えるとされており、お寺では法要が行われます。
各家庭ではお墓参りをして、花や線香、おはぎなどを供える風習があります。
おはぎとは、主に蒸したもち米を丸めてあんこで包んだお菓子で、邪気を払う効果があるといわれています。©2017 KODANSHA
