Nanakusa-gayu is rice porridge made with the "seven herbs of spring". 七草がゆとは、毎年1月7日の朝に「春の七草」を入れたおかゆを食べ、一年の豊作や無病息災を願う風習です。
中国から日本に伝わり、平安時代には宮中の行事として行われていた風習で、江戸時代に一般庶民に広まったといわれています。
春の七草とは、お正月頃に採れる7種類の野菜のことで、つまり日本のハーブ。体に優しく、早春にいち早く芽吹くことから、食べると邪気を払うといわれました。
多くの家庭では、お正月にはおせち料理など、濃い味つけのごちそうをたくさん食べるため、胃がもたれるもの。
ビタミンもたっぷり含まれた七草がゆは、疲れた胃腸をいたわるヘルシー料理で、現在ではスーパーなどで「七草がゆセット」も売られています。©2017 KODANSHA
