子どもをおびやかす厄災を紙や草木で作った人形に託し、川や海に流してはらいきよめます。
奈良・平安時代の日本の宮中では、曲水の宴という伝統的な中国の儀式が行われていました。
曲水の宴では川の水に酒の盃を浮かべましたが、平安時代の中期、女性たちが盃の代わりに人形を流す風習が始まりました。
これが流し雛の起源といわれていて、やがて3月3日に行われるようになりました。
そして江戸時代に入って、流し雛の代わりに豪華な人形を飾って女の子の成長を願う、雛祭りの風習が生まれました。
現在も日本の各地では3月3日に流し雛を行うところが多く、東京都の隅田川や、鳥取県鳥取市で行われるものが有名です。©2017 KODANSHA
