Fireworks festivals are a summer tradition in Japan and so when it becomes summer numerous fireworks festivals are held throughout the country. 花火大会は日本の夏の風物詩で、夏になると全国各地で数多くの花火大会が開かれます。
夏の夜空に花火を打ち上げ、みんなで観賞する風習は、江戸時代に生まれました。
1732年に大飢饉に見舞われた江戸では、多くの死者が出ました。翌年、当時の将軍だった徳川吉宗が死者の霊を弔うため、現在の隅田川で花火を打ち上げました。
これが、全国的に有名な隅田川花火大会の起源で、日本最古の花火大会といわれます。
現在、多くの花火大会にコンピューターが導入され、音楽やレーザー光線などを駆使した大会も見られます。
なかには4万発もの花火が打ち上げられる大規模な大会もあります。©2017 KODANSHA
