徳島県の旧国名である「阿波」にちなむ阿波おどりは、徳島県内の各所で行われますが、最も盛大なのは、毎年8月12日から15日にかけて行われる徳島市の阿波おどりです。
一般的な盆踊りはやぐらの周囲を人々が輪になって踊りますが、阿波おどりは「連」と呼ばれる踊り子グループが集団となって練り歩くのが特徴。
期間中はいくつもの連が踊りを競い合い、踊り子の数は約10万人ともいわれます。
阿波おどりには、「踊る阿呆に見る阿呆、同じ阿呆なら踊らにゃ損々」という有名な囃し言葉があり、会場では観光客が飛び入り参加できる場所も設けられています。©2017 KODANSHA
