Sweet foods, such as Japanese and Western confectionaries, are known as kanmi (sweets). 和菓子や洋菓子など、甘い食べ物を甘味と呼びます。
甘味には、料理の後に食べるデザート、お茶席で出されるお茶請け、甘味処や喫茶店で食べる、あんみつやぜんざいのような和菓子など、さまざまなものがあります。
食後のデザートは、甘さによって食後の満足感を強める役割があるといわれます。
