About this listen
Inside Affair is book one of the Prime Time Series trilogy and must be listened to in order.
Xander
If I had to describe Sean Bailey, it would be: A surly, temperamental pain in my ass. Never in that equation would I ever include the word boyfriend - and not just because he’s straight.
The older brother of my life-long best friend, Sean is a detective for the Chicago PD, and is also known as Detective “Dick” for being...well, a surly, temperamental pain in everyone’s ass. He also happens to be the best they have, which is why I find myself on his doorstep the night my life is threatened by an anonymous stalker.
I only wanted the name of a bodyguard; I didn’t expect for Sean to volunteer for the job. Now, not only do I have a bodyguard, I also have a fake boyfriend.
Sean
It must be so hard to be Alexander Thorne, the number one prime-time news anchor in the country, with millions of dollars and a car that costs more than my house. I mean, I’m allowed to give him a hard time about it, but when some creep decides to cross the line and go after him, they’re gonna have to answer to me.
Going undercover has never been an issue in the past, so I don’t see why there’d be a problem now. Xander and I have known each other for years, so this should be a breeze. Except suddenly my stomach’s flipping when he looks my way, and my body comes alive whenever he brushes by me. I know I’m good at my job and playing a character and all, but this is getting out of hand.
I can’t be sure that either of us are playing anymore.

That cliffhanger...hmm.
Overall good read. Narrator was great. That ending could've given more though, but it was done that way to get you to read the next one. I don't feel compelled to read the sequel though.

Cliff hanger, nothing masculine about these guys
The entire way through the book you are to believe these are two experienced masculine men however their behaviour towards each other is that of two teenagers figuring out how to touch each other. The sexual chemistry is there but they do nothing to act on it other than hold hands and light kissing. This is yet another female writer who knows very little about how gay or bi curious people act towards each other when exploring sexuality or chemistry. It would have made more sense if Zander was a female because for a confident gay man who was apparently a player at the beginning of the book, he acts like sex is a foreign concept and teases Sean for no good reason.
There is great character development and if this was a male female book it would be great, but male male it was hugely lacking.
Narrator was great though.
There is a cliffhanger and I am not at all compelled to listen the second book.

Be warned: abrupt cliffhanger ending!
Popular news anchor, Xander, has a problem stalker and enlists old family friend and police detective, Sean, to act as a bodyguard. This is classic gay-for-you / fake boyfriend territory and is as plausible as any of them ever are. I liked: Sean’s alpha-male character, the bickering between the MCs, the element of danger, and the extremely slow burn. I didn’t like Xander’s petulance and fear, the amount of talking about the growing relationship, and the HUGE unforgivable cliffhanger - be warned: this ends very abruptly! I buy books in a series to spend time with beloved characters, not to find out what happens. Given the things I didn’t like, I probably won’t chase up further books in this series. 🎧 I grew to like Charlie David’s narration, his deep voice suited Sean. It was hard to know which MC was speaking at times - I didn’t spot any obvious difference in the way the MCs were voiced.
