Excellent historical fiction.
The quality of the narration and interpretation of the mood of the time and events.

Competent narration of an excellent book
I listened to this immediately after finishing Barbara Tuchman's A Distant Mirror, which finishes around the time this picks up, and makes it easier to keep the characters and their back stories straight. This is, of course, a work of historical fiction, not a history, but it's clearly painstakingly researched (apart from a couple of minor slips - potatoes in an early fifteenth century Parisians kitchen garden?) and exquisitely told, incorporating much of Charles d'Orleans' poetry. The narrator does let this down somewhat. The accents are deeply annoying and some passages are performed rather too dramatically.

Absolutely Excoriating
Why did the narrator have to spoil an otherwise good book? Surely someone vetted this recording before it was released? The narrator is so lost in her hysterical and ludicrous narration that the mispronunciation is just an added irritation. If I could demand my money back I would.
