Different to what I thought.

I was expecting an account of the topography, flora and fauna of Patagonia . Instead it was an interesting account of the strange lives and strange people who migrated to live in this remote place where it turns out there were/are many sheep and were many strange and wonderful dinosaurs . Very interesting .

So much more than a travel book …

Where do you start with a book that is impossible to classify ? That seems to have no real beginning, and an abrupt end. Rarely there are books that transcend their subjects, and enter the into the general literary culture - a farewell to arms springs to mind , and Chatwin’s collection of anecdotes, for that is what it is , does just that. Written in the late 70’s , by a well educated but sexually repressed drifter , it’s premise of tracing the discovery point of a dinosaur relic from his childhood is a thinly veiled ruse to escape the confines of a stultifying Britain. The author whisks us away to the raw open spaces of Patagonia and the strange and eclectic band of people whom have made it their home … the narrators gentle renderings of Chatwin s beautiful prose make this easily one of my favourite audibles so far …

Did not appeal

Others may have found this book interesting/worthy of the acclaim it received in the blurb but I couldn't even finish it. Jumped all over the place and really not one story was appealing.
