About this listen
Books 1-3 of the bestselling Imp Series all in one package!
A Demon Bound - All Samantha Martin wants to do is drink beer by the pool, play mischievous pranks on the humans, and get her hot neighbor in the sack - oh, and avoid the angels who won’t hesitate to execute her on sight. But when her naughty hellhound lands her in trouble and she’s blackmailed into catching a killer, Sam finds herself in the crosshairs of the very beings that want her dead.
Run to Hel and give up all the earthly pleasures she’s learned to love? Stay and face a certain death? Or use her impish wiles to and hope to survive? Satan's Sword - Bound by an angel, Sam is the only demon allowed to walk among the humans and live - if she follows the rules. But when Sam’s brother, Dar, finds himself in hot water, following the rules becomes impossible.
Retrieve an artifact from the vampires. Save Dar from centuries of enslavement and torture. All it takes is for her to perform a simple courier job, but with demons nothing is simple - especially when Sam must comply with the restrictions her angel has placed on her or face a punishment worse than death Elven Blood - Samantha Martin is an imp, a lesser demon from Hel. She has been living under the radar, posing as a human for the last 40 years, but now that she’s bound to an angel and holds the title of Iblis her life is...complicated.
Sam has become buried in angelic bureaucracy, saddled with a succubus house guest, and is fighting off a never-ending slew of demon hit-men. The powerful demon, Haagenti, won’t rest until she’s dragged back to Hel for “punishment”, and he has put a substantial price on her head – a price that threatens not only her, but the human she’s grown to love. When an elven lord offers to take care of Haagenti in return for tracking down and killing a demon half-breed, Sam thinks she’s found the solution to her most pressing problem. But finding and retrieving this hybrid monster isn't proving easy and time is running out

I'm an idiot for not trying it earlier!
I've been seing the Imp series for a long while now. I've seen people raving about it. For some reason, every time I read the synopsis, I was put off and moved onto something else. Something about the descriptions always rubbed me the wrong way. Also, I dislike the covers and now that I've read the first 3 books, I can say that both the synopsi and the covers are completely misleading.
I'm going to blame the marketing for my missing out on one of the best urban fantasy series I've ever read (and I've been reading the genre since it's very beginings for over 20 years now).
The world building is immaculate, intricate, interesting, original and ever expanding in ways that sucked me in completely.
I abandon any book that doesn't grab me after the first chapter - there's too many books on my TBR pile for me to waste time on stuff that bores me. For the life of me, I cannot imagine how anyone could say it starts slow. Actually I guess people who don't care about well constructed worlds might not be impressed, so that might explain it. Fair enough - different strokes for different folks.
Sam, as the main character is a total gem. Amoral and unapologetic to begin with. Then a slow and steady growth of empathy and ethics with each consecutive book. I'm so looking forward to see where that leads and can't begin to tell you how thrilled I am there are so many books in the finished series for me to binge on. This is my happy place - a whole series and the time to read it all in one greedy gulp. (Curtesy of Coronavirus, I have no need to bother with such things as work, sleep, etc)
The romantic subplot is also really well done.
Wyatt, her human boyfriend and her conscience is delightful but it's Grigori who remains the most intriguing prospect, in my opinion. Not usually a fan of love triangles but I would argue it really isn't. The two guys are not playing in the same level. Actually they're not even playing the same game, as far as I can see. They're not competing for the same place in Sam's life but helping her reach her potential in two very different areas. As far as writing goes, these two are a brilliant vehicle to propel the growth of Sam's character. So. Fraking. Impressive.
I must also mention that this series is increadibly witty. There are lines that made me laugh out loud. Sam's inner dialogue is to die for and the dry sarcasm with which she comments on the events around her are endlessly amusing, even in the midst of a tense plot development. This beautiful balance of intense and funny is a combination I absolutely love in any writing, but it's especially important in good urban fantasy.
Last, but not at all the least; the narrator Angela Rysk, is so well chosen for these books.
Her slightly husky voice is perfect and I love her male voices. She also strikes just the right tone without either overacting nor making Sam into the charicature of spunky urban fantasy heroine I, unfortunately, come across quite often.
I really hope all the audio books have her as the narrator. I will also be checking out what else she has narrated.
In conclusion - get it. It's everything I could ever want a good urban fantasy series to be, and more.

Great books, average narrator
The books are great - funny, sweet, irreverent and occasionally gross. It is a joy to follow the little imp on her evolution through the series.
The narrator was absolutely terrible (mainly timing/speech patterns) in book one, but does improve as she goes through the books.
My suggestion - read book 1 (and 2?) then you can start the Audible versions on the following books.
