About this listen
There's a thin line between love, hate, life and death in this vampire bodyguard paranormal romance from M.A. Grant, author of The Prince of Air and Darkness.
Cristian Slava and Atlas Kincaid despise each other. At least, that’s what they need everyone to believe. In truth, the charismatic vampire and his fierce bodyguard are more in love than ever. But when a powerful political faction emerges and threatens Cristian’s family, the only way into their enemy’s inner circle is without each other by their side.
From Romania to New York and beyond, though apart, their blood-bond cannot be severed—but it can be used against them. When Cristian sacrifices his life to save his family and save Atlas from having his darkest secrets revealed, only faith in that bond will keep Atlas from utter despair.
And only by facing his past will Atlas be able to accept who he is and finally defeat their most powerful enemy yet…
Death itself.

Left me with questions but had some great scenes!
Reluctant heir to his father’s vampiric empire, Cristian Slava and his human bodyguard, Atlas Kincaid, return to NY after tangling with a nest of crazed strigoi vampires. With Cristian’s father facing charges from the Vampire Council, Cristian and Atlas must pretend to hate each other while they investigate just who is creating strigoi nests locally. With Cristian in danger of being kidnapped and used as a pawn for power, Cristian, Atlas, their friends, and trusted allies are all soon drawn into the fight of their lives.
I was pleased that this third in the Whitethorn Agency trilogy picked up the pace and plot again after the 2nd book meandered so much. There are some strong extended fight scenes here and it was great to finally piece together the dastardly plan to seize power. The strigois are key to this trilogy but I never felt I really got clear explanations about how or why they were created, how they could be controlled, and how Atlas was able to survive their bite at the end of the 2nd book. I also struggled with the half-baked plans that Cristian and Atlas came up with in this book—I was expecting Atlas’s military training to be more useful. At best this series is diverting but nowhere near as compelling as the Darkest Court series. 🎧 US voice actor John Solo makes a good fist of the accents, the action and the emotions—he always lifts the stories he narrates!
