About this listen
When Margaret's fiancé, John, is hospitalized for depression, she faces a choice: carry on with their plans or leave. She decides to marry him. This is the story of what unfolds from this act of love and faith, when their three children help their mother to care for Michael.
Told in alternating points of view by all five members of the family, this searing, gut-wrenching and yet frequently hilarious novel brings alive with remarkable poignancy the depth of family love.

Beautifully observant writing.
What made the experience of listening to Imagine Me Gone the most enjoyable?
The writing is lovely - it is poignant and also wryly amusing. It is told from the persecutive of the main five characters, giving different insights into the story and family life.

About halfway down the track
What was one of the most memorable moments of Imagine Me Gone?
John asking his kids to imagine him gone.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The above scene
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Alec tries to wean Michael off drugs
Any additional comments?
John and his son Michael are memorable characters. The others don't really convince or inspire. The romance between Alec and Seth starts off as charming but becomes long-winded and tedious. Accolades to the readers, though.

Haunting
Deeply felt emotions run through this novel. The pain of loss and a family who deal with it in their own way in their own time. I enjoy the circle of perspectives leaving one to gain a deeper understanding through the voice of a different character. Sad yet beautiful.
