About this listen
I'M A FAN tells the story of an unnamed narrator's involvement in a seemingly unequal romantic relationship. With a clear and unforgiving eye, Sheena Patel makes startling connections between power struggles at the heart of human relationships to those in the wider world, offering a devastating critique of social media, access and patriarchal systems.

Spot on!
This made me want to kms in the best way. Smart and searing nihilistic social commentary. Need to buy the physical copy so I can highlight a few things!

Sad Girl aesthetic
Sad girl books are usually my favourite books but this one. You know when you spend a ridiculous amount engaged in a parasocial relationship online… well times that by 10. I just wish the narrator gave us more of a conclusion.

Enthralling, psychotic
Beautifully written, very clever, but also extremely dark. Before listening, I read a review that said this is about experiencing a psychotic man, an abuser. That’s true, but the protagonist also appears to have been written as a clinical sociopath. She displays unapologetically cruel behaviour to those around her, shows limited empathy or guilt, lacks authentic relationships or a realistic internal narrative, talks about people (including partner and parents) in terms of what they give or take from her. And of course, she is a stalker. The audio also makes it feel gorgeously melancholic. I do wonder if my experience of the book would have been very different if I had chosen to read it. Anyway, I loved it! I couldn’t put it down, highly recommend!
