About this listen
Initially dismissed by US President Barack Obama, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has shocked the world by conquering massive territories in both countries and promising to create a vast new Muslim caliphate that observes the strict dictates of Sharia law. In ISIS: Inside the Army of Terror, American journalist Michael Weiss and Syrian analyst Hassan Hassan explain how these violent extremists evolved from a nearly defeated Iraqi insurgent group into a jihadi army of international volunteers who have conquered territory equal to the size of Great Britain. Drawing on original interviews with former US military officials and current ISIS fighters, the authors also reveal the internecine struggles within the movement itself as well as ISIS' bloody hatred of Shiite Muslims, which is generating another sectarian war in the region. Past is prologue, and America's legacy in the Middle East is sowing a new generation of terror.

Wonderfully read, very informative!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If a friend were looking for information on the background to ISIS's development in Iraq and the political milieu of Iraq and the surrounding nations that would eventually give birth to ISIS then this book would be my first suggestion.
What did you like best about this story?
I like best the logical flow of the story. This is perhaps one of the more politically complex regions to write a book about and so we should expect the author to jump back and forth in time, however this didn't seem like a weakness since the logical flow warrants it.
What about Qarie Marshall’s performance did you like?
Qarie Marshall’s pronunciation and reading style was very easy to follow. He is easy to listen to and while the content of the book is often distressing, his reading style was pleasant.

GOOD but perhaps not good enough.
I enjoyed the book but not enthusiastically so. Perhaps I spoilt it by reading "Master Plan" first which I greatly enjoyed.
Similar subjects and I much preferred Master Plan.
Worth the money for mine, but only just.

Interesting but...
I found this book interesting but without a background knowledge on middle eastern politics it was probably too indepth for what I wanted to know. It's often hard to remember all the Arabic names and it might be easier to read in print. It provides an excellent account of all aspects of ISIS and appears to be fairly unbiased. I would recommend it to somebody who has an interest in this subject but if your interest is only marginal than maybe try something else.

History never has just one side!
ISIS problem is more complex than ordinary people believes it is. This audio book is a good start for who persecute the truth behind scenes, behind the news that shows just one simple side of this complex and puzzling moment of human history, bombs will not save the world on the contrary will destroy it!

good book
I was put off by a few reviews suggesting this book was boring but I am glad I ignored them. It is an academic styled book rather than an action novel, so you should know what you are in for, but I found it good (although a bit dated in 2021)
