About this listen

American diplomat Payton Pleydell and his wife Sylvia are the most respected, brilliant couple in Washington. Theirs seems a perfect marriage, but Kate Jerold begins to suspect that her cousin’s husband is not as devoted as he seems. Then the unexpected arrival of a Czech official threatens to bring the façade crashing down. Even after six years apart, Sylvia has not forgotten Jan Brovic; during the war they had been deeply, secretly in love. But now there is a new war, and former allies have become bitter enemies. Jan is on the other side and his motives may not be pure.

Separated by the enmity of nations, Sylvia must decide whether to risk everything to be with the man she loves.

Very Interesting

Set in the early 50s in the USA, Sylvia is waiting at the train station for her cousin to arrive, when she is approached by a blast from the past, the man she had fallen in love with some 6 years previously. So the story continues. Illicit secret meetings spy's, etc that finally make her run from a husband and ends with her tragic death

Worst narrator I’ve ever heard

Why does she sound strained and also scared? I listen to all books on 1.4-1.5x and not even that could help. I got about one minute in and couldn’t bear to listen. Disappointed for the author as what might be a good book can’t be listened to due to the narrator.

Disappointing and tedious.

I persisted with this story hoping for an interesting ending but to be disappointed all the way to the finish.

I am my true love

Not her best book. Insufficient plot too many pointless descriptive passages. Disappointing all round. But I like her books generally so will try again

Not a spy to be seen

Slow. No story. My only recommendation is don’t do it. Performer did not bring anything to recommend either.

Abysmal, absolutely abysmal narration

I couldn't get passed chapter 3. What is probably a good story was totally ruined by the narrator.

Disappointing

This is a stressfilled story with a depressing ending...It might be long but Anna Karenina it is NOT
