About this listen

Grammy Award–nominated, platinum-selling musician Halsey is heralded as one of the most compelling voices of her generation. In I Would Leave Me If I Could, she reveals never-before-seen poetry of longing, love, and the nuances of bipolar disorder.

In this debut collection, Halsey bares her soul. Bringing the same artistry found in her lyrics, Halsey’s poems delve into the highs and lows of doomed relationships, family ties, sexuality, and mental illness. More hand grenades than confessions, these autobiographical poems explore and dismantle conventional notions of what it means to be a feminist in search of power.

Masterful as it is raw, passionate, and profound, I Would Leave Me If I Could signals the arrival of an essential voice.

self indulgent

I couldn't help but detach from sections of the chapters that seemed to be a little self indulgent and emo. I loved the evocative imagery and honesty. Very complimenting of her image as a performer. ♡

I Would Leave Me If I Could - Written and Narrated by a Pure Genius

Absolutely amazing. I’m speechless. I have the physical book and I have read it over and over a billion times, but having it read by Halsey themselves is just an incredible layer added to an incredible book. I’m truly in love with this poetry book. Halsey is so bravely self-aware (and self-deprecating), it’s chilling. Goosebumps galore. While her writing is powerful enough to be consumed as a written text, having Halsey herself narrate these poems was beautiful in that whole new meanings were able to be interpreted by her tone, which we know is the true intended tone for she wrote them. I’m a particular fan of I Want to be a Writer! Bad Day (1, 2, and 3), You Were First and Fun Girl however every single poem, word, syllable is undoubtedly and undeniably right. It is exactly what it needs to be. Not perfect, just exactly right. Halsey, thank you. You’ve done outstanding work and I’m so grateful to have another channel to you. Thank you for your vulnerability and honesty: it’s incredibly reassuring.

Halsey’s reading of this book, and the poetry itself, is magnificent and surpasses all prior expectations. I expected nothing less from.
