About this listen
Some of the parchment pages were the color of cream, thick and substantial, made to last many, many lifetimes. Other pages were thin and desiccated, positively yellow from age, and crackled alarmingly as Van Richten turned them over. There were no ornate illuminations, no fussy borders, only lines of plain text in hard black ink. The flowing handwriting was a bit difficult to follow at first; the writer's style of calligraphy had not been in common use for 300 years. No table of contents, but from the dates it looked to be some kind of history. He turned to the first page and read:
I, Strahd, Lord of Barovia, well aware certain events of my reign have been desperately misunderstood by those who are better at garbling history than recording it, hereby set down an exact record of those events, that the truth may at last be known....
He caught his breath. By all the good gods, a personal journal?

's'good
Rich narration and a fun retelling of an old story steeped in the trope we know and love, highlighting it's more tragic moments and partially justifying the choices made in such a process as Strahd's transformation.

Are you a DM?
Are you about to run Curse of Strahd? Then get this book!
If you're a player though, do your DM a favour and pass for now. Come back after you've played it.

Amazing
Fantastic voice actor. Amazing story. I've listened to it several times and likely will several more. Definitely worth a purchase.

My new favourite villain!
one of my favourite villains at least. I, Strahd is a fantastically written tragic tale of a lord succumbing to the life of retirement after a life of war. Dark & atmospheric, the narrator does a fantastic job of capturing the accents and capturing the mood of this chilling story. This is a story like no other and if you love watching or at least interested in watching a the protagonist grow into an all powerful villain than this is a must read.

An invaluable look into the mind of Strahd
If you plan to DM Curse of Strahd campaign, this book is an invaluable resource for one wondering how to run and roleplay Strahd von Barovich. Not only is it excellently written and performed, it is also chock full of details and history for one of D&D's most infamous villains.
I would recommend this book to any to be Curse of Strahd DMs and to any players who have just finished playing in a campaign.

Amazing!
The narrator truely brings this book and the characters within alive (or undead). Fully immersive. Great!

Didn't love it
I went into this book hoping to get more lore about one of my favourite DnD characters but really just struggled to get through it. I felt that it was slow and often left it for weeks/months at a time.
