About this listen
‘A darkly funny riot’ The Times, Book of the Month
A GOODREADS CHOICE AWARD FOR FICTION 2024
Would you want to know what your colleagues say behind your back?
Jolene certainly doesn’t.
She’s riddled with anxiety, depressed, and hates her coworkers. The less she knows about them, the better.
So when a catastrophic IT f--k up grants her access to all of their emails and private messages, she’s initially horrified. The last thing she wants is to be privy to their sad discussions about dying desk plants and marital troubles.
That’s until, with job cuts looming, she realises the power this new-found knowledge gives her.
But as she digs deeper and deeper into the private lives of her colleagues, Jolene uncovers a lot more than she bargained for… And the walls she’d so carefully built start crumbling down.
For readers who loved The Office US and Really Good, Actually comes the awkward heroine you’re about to fall in love with

Couldn’t stop listening!
This is such a good book! Uggghhh it had me in all the feels - laughing, crying, anxious, heartbroken, overjoyed, frustrated!!
I’ve read 55 books this year and this is by far the best.
Can’t wait to read more from this author.

Loved this but enough with donuts!
I really loved the honest look at workplace culture and how damaging and alienating it can be. It was also hopeful despite the appearance of hopelessness. But i can only assume there was an obesity issue in the office because of the number of donuts they ate!!!

Funny and delightful
Loved everything about this book. Character development 10/10, relatable story for anyone who has worked in a toxic office environment, insight into social anxiety, and a hopeful story of overcoming it.

Lighthearted but had so much more potential
Overall, the story was easy to follow and generally lighthearted. I’m not sure if it was the performance, but I found Jolene insufferable as a character. She makes her sound so desperate and her impression of a Persian woman made me cringe every time (I know a few Persian women and the accent was bad).
Perhaps if I read the book I would have liked it more than listening.

Dramaaa
Classic office drama. Everyone has their own stuff going on. A story about the melodrama of office life and love. I feel like I've worked with most of these characters. Good narration.
