About this listen
FOREWORD BY WINONA RYDER
Tune in, turn on, drop out. So said Timothy Leary, global figurehead for sixties psychedelic culture and 'the most dangerous man in America' according to President Nixon. A psychologist at Harvard, Leary was forced to leave when he started to dedicate his efforts to researching LSD and other psychedelic drugs, a vocation which changed an entire generation. John Higgs' incredible biography reveals the stranger-than-fiction true story of one of the most divisive figures of the twentieth century.

What a trip!
A very fun book about the influential and unique life of one of the worlds leading psychopaths, psychologists and counter culture characters.
A more straightforward style of story telling than many of John Higgs's other great books, but it doesn't suffer from a lack of ideas and drama. It's fun to see the early ideas that pop up in other Higgs books appearing in this, his first. From the opening account of Leary's jailbreak it charges through an incredibly full and exciting life lived to the full.
Some of the performance, by the author, has some editing issues with the odd line being inserted as an obvious reread. This amused me on the couple o occasions I noticed the change in tone and intonation but did not distract from an otherwise wonderful read.
This is the third John Higgs book I've listened to rather than read, and it has become my favourite medium to digest his work. I'm always a fan of books read by their authors and John's delivery makes it a very pleasant way to digest his wonderful writing.
