Publisher's Summary
Incendiary feminist and bestselling author Clementine Ford presents the inarguable case against marriage for the modern woman. Provocative, controversial and above all, compellingly and persuasively argued.
I want this book to end marriages. But more importantly, I want it to prevent marriages. Women are allowed to aspire to more than what we've been told we should want in order to be happy. Let yourself have a bigger dream than becoming the supporting role in someone else's story.
Why, when there is so much evidence of the detrimental, suffocating impact marriage has on women's lives, does the myth of marital bliss and necessity still prevail? If the feminist project has been so successful, why do so many women still believe that our value is intrinsically tied to being chosen by a man?
In her most incendiary and controversial book to date, Clementine Ford exposes the lies used to sell marriage to women to keep them in service to men and male power. From the roots of marriage as a form of property transaction to the wedding industrial complex, Clementine Ford explains how capitalist patriarchal structures need women to believe in marriage in order to maintain control over women's agency, ambitions and freedom.
I Don't presents an inarguable case against marriage for modern women. With the incisive attention to detail and razor sharp wit that has characterised her work, Ford examines a broad range of topics, including the patriarchal history of marriage; the insidious and centuries long marketing campaign pop culture has conducted in marriage's favour; the illusion of feminist 'choice' in regard to taking men's names; the physical and social cost that comes with motherhood; and what a different kind of world could look like for women who were allowed to truly be free.

'A must listen to' for all women!
You won't hate all men from listening to this, you will however be able to clearly see through the nonsense and value yourself enough to want better.

Where has this book been all my life!
I loved it. It is funny, witty, intelligent, takes you on a journey and confronts what we have always accepted as “how it is”. Clem’s work never disappoints, and I hope every woman reads this.

An enlightening read
Clem has done it again. “I Don’t” was well researched and reasoned, and led to so many ‘uh ha’ moments. It had me laughing (especially the voices), and cheering, and really opened my eyes to a lot of things I just assumed were normal. If recommend this book to all women and any men who love one.

A must read for all women
I’ve been married, now divorced. And my experience hasn’t made me bitter. I will always consider myself a romantic. I listened to Clementine’s book because I was curious to see what she had to say about the thing I blissfully entered into, failed, and took several years to recover from. Wow! It’s eye opening. She’s someone I could happily have a wine with, listen to her talk and be in fits of laughter. Thanks for the exceptional history lesson and giggle.

Uplifting book every woman should read
Clementine delivers an insightful critique into the institution of marriage. I’m filled with rage about the mistreatment of women throughout history. But I’m also filled with hope that this book will help women understand that there’s more to life than marriage

We have needed this book since forever
This book should be made compulsory for every senior female high school student. I will be buying it for all my nieces. Thank you Cementine! This book was informative, hilarious and really made me challenge things I was programmed to accept by the patriarchy. I thought I was progressive by knowing that if I got married I would keep my name… that’s the extent of what I thought I could do to say fuck you to this fucked up institution. But the idea of not being married and being single and happy? We’re allowed to do that? Of course. What hasn’t I thought it that? Why was that not an option in my brain??? I’m an educated person. This is the power of this book! Thank you Clem x
