Publisher's Summary
Caroline Overington's best seller is a heart-breaking, utterly compelling novel of a family ripped apart.
It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was.
She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.
The woman walked out to the car park, towards an old Corolla. For a moment, she held the child gently against her breast and, with her eyes closed, she smelled her. She then clipped the infant into the car, got in and drove off.
That is where the footage ends. It isn't where the story ends, however. It's not even where the story starts.

Wonderful
From the minute the narrator started the story I knew it was my kind of book. So truthful and could be anyone of us

Heartbreaking
I can not help but wonder if this is an actual recount of somebody’s experience with the “ system “ .
The honesty of the story relatable to many Australian s.

Very engrossing and sad
I loved the performance of the book. The narrator has a wonderful voice and I found it very quickly gripped me. I found it very tragic but beautifully written and the characters were very believable. I am already missing this book it will be hard to find another as engrossing.

Stick with it and you won’t regret it.
Honestly I found this difficult to stick with in the beginning but I did and I’m so glad that I did! Very well performed and a great storyline. Really enjoyed it. Thanks.

Beautiful story but a little preachy
Such a well-crafted story with beautiful characters. Some of the factual/legal errors were grating if you have any familiarity with the court and child protection systems.
Did feel a bit preachy as the wilful cruelty and bureaucracy of DOCS got repetitive. But the story and performances were compelling.

Utterly fabulous!
I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. I am relatively new to Audible & how the book is read is so important to me. I simply loved how this book was delivered. I felt like I was there listening to their stories first hand. A very sad but heartwarming story that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Brilliant story
This was a beautifully raw, sensitive, wretched, honest and warm story of family, love and loss. Wonderfully narrated.

A good story, well told.
I really enjoyed this story, although it was pretty sad and quite enjoyed the different narrators.
