About this listen
This book will make your birth better. It is for every woman and every type of birth.
As featured on Dragons’ Den.
Expert hypnobirthing teacher and founder of The Positive Birth Company, Siobhan Miller has made it her mission to change the way women around the world approach and experience birth. Through her teaching she seeks to educate and empower women—and their birth partners—so that they can enjoy amazing and positive birth experiences, however they choose to bring their babies into the world.
In this book, Siobhan debunks common myths about hypnobirthing and explains why she believes it can make every type of birth a better experience—from a water birth at home to an unplanned caesarean in theatre.
So, what is hypnobirthing? Essentially, it's a form of antenatal education, an approach to birth that is both evidence-based and logical. Hypnobirthing certainly doesn't involve being hypnotised; instead, it teaches you how your body works on a muscular and hormonal level when in labour and how you can use various relaxation techniques to ensure you are working with your body (rather than against it), making birth more efficient and comfortable.
Siobhan's advice and guidance will change your mindset and enable you to navigate your birth with practical tools that ensure you feel calm and in control throughout.
By the time you finish this book you'll feel relaxed, capable and genuinely excited about giving birth.

Informative Listen
This was an informative listen with some great resources and coping skills to take away in preparation for whatever birth you’d like. I do feel there was a little too much negativity towards those who choose to give birth in a hospital setting, almost as if they are ‘uneducated’ which did put me off a little however moving forward it was overall a great listen well worth the time.

Empowering for both you and your birthing partner
This book has left me on a high, excited about labor and birth! I now feel informed on what my body is actually doing during labor and how the various human functions serve or hinder progression, but in a positive way with real time actions to help move through any hiccups.
You are given a full tool belt of tricks and tactics to help you through surges and a whole chapter on what specifically your birth partner can do and when it might be most affective.
I feel so much calmer and ready to face labor and birth.
Thank you Siobhan!

This really helped…
This is a great guide towards understanding birth and how you can prepare yourself mentally and emotionally to have a better birth experience.
The next part might be a bit TMI, so read on if you’d like my personal experience:
I had a natural water birth for my first child. I wasn’t sure what was really happening and afterwards I felt like it was a fluke. I really wanted a natural water birth for our second, but I’m a lot older now and I wanted to plan ahead, so I listened to this audiobook. To say it helped would be an understatement. I didn’t follow all the guides, I didn’t listen to all the meditations, but I chose what felt right for me and my husband.
On the day, I got into hospital, my husband by my side and as ready as we’d ever be. It was tougher than my first birth experience, but my second child was also much heavier and the birth progressed much faster - 8.8pounds, with a natural water birth in less than 4 hours. My husband was thrilled to be even more involved this time than with our first, and he was truly in awe of what I accomplished. It was intense, but very empowering. I still feel extremely lucky to have had that birth experience, but it feels less like a fluke, and more like something I had hoped and prepared for as best I could.
I’m in Australia, gave birth in a public hospital, and the guidelines followed by the hospital are very similar to those mentioned in the book. The amazing midwives took my lead, as they knew I had a plan and they respected the hypnobirthing ideas I shared. If it weren’t for this book, I wouldn’t have had the words or clarity to ask for what I needed during or after the birth.
This book and the knowledge behind it is worth it’s weight in gold. Thank you. So much.
