About this listen

In this hotly anticipated sequel to the haunting number one best seller Stalking Jack the Ripper, bizarre murders are discovered in the castle of Prince Vlad the Impaler, otherwise known as Dracula. Could it be a copycat killer...or has the depraved prince been brought back to life?

Following the grief and horror of her discovery of Jack the Ripper's true identity, Audrey Rose Wadsworth has no choice but to flee London and its memories. Together with the arrogant yet charming Thomas Cresswell, she journeys to the dark heart of Romania, home to one of Europe's best schools of forensic medicine...and to another notorious killer, Vlad the Impaler, whose thirst for blood became legend.

But her life's dream is soon tainted by blood-soaked discoveries in the halls of the school's forbidding castle, and Audrey Rose is compelled to investigate the strangely familiar murders. What she finds brings all her terrifying fears to life once again.

Critic Reviews

"Audrey is a young woman eager to use her brains and willing to flaunt society's rules.... This mystery pays homage to classics like Doyle's Sherlock Holmes and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein [and] will satisfy those readers looking for historical mystery, a witty heroine, and a little romance." Hearts were beautifully fierce yet fragile things

This was outstanding, I enjoyed this more than the first! I loved the vampire/Dracula feel to it. Audrey Rose and Thomas are adorable, they're chemistry and dialogue are so catching, I love them both.

Loved it.

The sequel to ‘Stalking Jack the Ripper’, this is equally gripping and dramatic historical fiction set in Romania, with the majority of the story taking place at the school of forensic medicine that is housed in the castle that once belonged to Vlad the Impaler.

The book blends history, folklore, horror and forensic mystery genres in a uniquely twisting tale in which Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell once again seek to solve a series of mysterious deaths. The action is well paced, heightened by plenty of suspense and intrigue. There are plenty of mysterious characters and viable suspects, and the story is so well constructed that the truth almost imperceptible until it is revealed.

The narration by Nicola Barber is excellent, and gives a great deal of listening pleasure.

Excellent Sequel

This book was a really, really great time.
The characters were engaging and I felt really invested in the relationships between them, particularly between Audrey Rose and Thomas. I wasn’t really sure about Thomas in the first book, but he grew on me and I ended up really liking his character. I also liked the side characters that were introduced.
The mystery element of this book was far less predictable to me than in the first book, which I obviously couldn’t be happier about. The castle setting really fed into the ambiance of the story and was really enjoyable.
I listened to this book on audio and I would highly recommend the audiobook. It was thoroughly entertaining, the narrator did a great job expressing emotion and distinguishing between character’s voices. I couldn’t stop listening.
Overall, this kept everything I liked from the first book and improved on the things I wasn’t super keen on. I now can’t wait to read the next book.
