About this listen
Once the sacred guardian of New Zealand's native forests, the hHuia was a symbol of the land's unique beauty and spirituality. The rare bird's tragic extinction in the early 1900s represents a shot to the heart of Aotearoa and is a potent metaphor for a country's conflicted history.
Using the story of the untimely extinction of the huia, J. Ruka offers a fresh perspective on the narrative of New Zealand: a tale of two cultures, warring worldviews, and the things we lost in translation.
Revisiting the early missionaries, the transformative message of the Gospel, and the cultural missteps of the Treaty of Waitangi, Huia Come Home invites us to reconnect with the unique story offered by the indigenous Māori lens.
In relearning the history that lies in the soil of Aotearoa, we might just find a shared hope for the future and a recovery of national treasures once thought to be extinct.

Thank you God. Spiritual enlightenment.
I will listen to this book over & over again. Aotearoa NZ's spiritual journey using our extinct Huia bird as an analagy of 200 years of cultural suppression in the name of God.
Highly recommended listening. The author, Jay Ruka is very easy to listen to. Thank you Jay.

Tu meke
This is a fabulous book and an important book for all New Zealanders who call themselves Christians. I was a member of a church and was told that I could not have anything to do with Māori because they practiced idolatry with so many different gods and were evil. Because of this, I did not learn anything about my culture and I blame the church for giving me this warped thinking. This book has given me a different perspective . Thank you.

Eye-opening
As a New Zealander, the untold history of the Gospel and Maori is important. This book challenges the long held western christian world view that is something that has been manufactured not from the Gospel but an interpretation is just one interpretation of it. The book and writer holds high the indigenous and spiritual world view of Maori and champions the fact that it is closer and more related to an authentic original Gospel of Jesus than we are lead to believe.
