Poverty is a disease of the mind. What?! How?
I’ve always been fascinated with the concept that poverty could be an illusion, living in the western world as a child of two immigrants but being brought up and conditioned with a lack mindset, despite maturing in this first world setting. I’ve been searching for a book that could explore that idea in depth.
This book came recommended to me via Flora Szivos in her SCMA course, which specialises in manifesting abundance and builds an inspired and activated community around mindset changes. Until now, I never thought there was a link between poverty and manifesting.
“There is no virtue in poverty. It is a disease like any other disease.” Murphy explores the mindset underneath financial abundance, through simple, mic dropping metaphors and one liners. They aren’t shocking, but instead come from a place of peace, knowing and deep understanding. You can’t help but melt into this book.
A statement that stopped me in my tracks was “One of the causes why many people want more money.. It is because they are silently or openly condemning it. Another reason they do not prosper is because they have a sneaky subconscious feeling that there is some virtue in poverty.” He goes on to explain how the feeling of wealth produces wealth, where “when you give to another, you give to yourself. [One who] thinks negatively of his classmates and condemning their wealth, causes the wealth that he is praying for to vanish and flee away. He is condemning the things he is praying for. He is praying for two ways.”
It’s so true!!! My gosh. People have these inner narratives that are self deprecating towards money. So essentially if we live in a universe governed by the law of attraction, you are actually giving the universe mixed messages. It is financial schizophrenia. Through this concise book, I learned empowered statements to re-tune those inner narratives to call in divine surplus. I’m so excited to persevere in this mental and spiritual experiment of magnetising financial abundance, and be another statistic in the success story case studies that manifesting geniuses like Murphy and Szivos are leaders in. If only to direct and lovingly guide my noisy, but phenomenally brilliant mind and centre my emotions, in that of knowing and faith.
