Publisher's Summary
You've heard of Neverland and its inhabitants...fairies, pirates, mermaids, and a boy who didn't want to grow up. But you can't always believe the stories.
Elena Hart arrives in London, bound for a new boarding school operated by her estranged uncle. A fresh start is exactly what she needs. But when strange things begin happening, things she can't explain, she begins to wonder if she has lost her mind.
Until the night a strange girl appears in her room claiming to be a fairy from Neverland come to take her to the fantasy world at the request of its ruler. Skeptical, Elena refuses. But the following night, a young man with strange green eyes appears, and though she tries to resist his charms, something about him draws her in, and Elena is whisked away from the world she knows, to a world she always thought was make believe.
But when she arrives in Neverland, it is nothing like the stories, and Elena realizes that she must figure out for herself who the true heroes and villains are.

Anticlimactic
I was so excited for this book. The title, the cover, the summary all held great promises and I loved the idea of a new take on a childhood favorite fairytale, Peter Pan.
Unfortunately I could not get into this book like I hoped I would. I was thoroughly disappointed with the main character and found her opinions and actions infuriating to listen to. She is very contradictory to what I believe the author is trying to make her out to be: strong, independent, friendly yet wary of men. At the start of the book she is a virgin and suggests her unwillingness to rush into ssx is why her past relationships have failed. And then she literally throws herself at a guy she has known for 24 hours (? max) and has sex with him. And so begins a terrible, anticlimactic, rushed and confusing relationship and love triangle. To me it seems very inconsistent and is completely unromantic considering romance is a major theme/plot in this book.
I was also super confused as to why the main character even went to Neverland in the first place? She barely questioned her decision - barely reflected on it or made it out to be the massive decision that it was! This made zero sense to me. I know she was supposed to be influenced by some fairy magic but it was sickly and cringey how she was always so compliant. And then other characters would refer to her as headstrong and fiery and she was, to be honest, none of those things.
Some critical feedback I would love the author to take on board is to remember to develop your main characters. This does not just apply to the girl but to the two boys as well. We knew nothing about them - we didn't get any background information or slow release during conversation. It was like the whole attraction from Elena was built on looks and actions which is not enough for a reader to go off. You need substance. Behaviours. Attitudes. History. This story could have been rated 3 stars better if these things had been written into the characters.
I really liked where the author wanted to go with this story, and she has the foundations for a great novel, but unfortunately these character flaws and plot holes do let down the novel. I can't wait to see what you bring out next. Do not let bad reviews discourage you! I can see a common theme in them so please utilise the feedback and your next book will be a crowd pleaser for sure! Best of luck. We will be waiting.
