About this listen

A brand-new book from award-winning author Kate Morton, read by powerhouse Emmy award–winning actress Claire Foy. This breathtaking mystery of love, lies and a cold case come back to life is told with Morton's trademark intricacy and beauty.

Adelaide Hills, Christmas Eve, 1959. At the end of a scorching hot day, beside a creek in the grounds of a grand and mysterious house, a local deliveryman makes a terrible discovery. A police investigation is called, and the small town of Tambilla becomes embroiled in one of the most shocking and perplexing murder cases in the history of South Australia.

Many years later and thousands of miles away, Jess is a journalist in search of a story. Having lived and worked in London for nearly two decades, she now finds herself laid off from her full-time job and struggling to make ends meet. Until a phone call out of nowhere summons her back to Sydney, where her beloved grandmother, Nora, has suffered a fall and been raced to the hospital.

At Nora’s house, Jess discovers a true crime book that chronicles the police investigation into a long-buried event: the Turner Family Tragedy of Christmas Eve, 1959. It is only when Jess skims through the pages that she finds a shocking connection between her own family and this once-infamous scandal – a murder mystery that has never been resolved satisfactorily.

So interesting and charming.

Great story line, interesting and a smart plot. Couldn’t wait to start listening each day.

I thought the narrator was wonderful.

Homecoming

An engaging read - but - although Claire Foy has a lovely voice for narration, why oh why was she chosen to narrate Australian accents? Sorry to say this lost the authenticity for me, with the weird New Zealandish twang she used. And guess what? Australians also have very fine actors who could have capably narrated this saga (but please remember we don’t all sound like Kath and Kim).

Absolutely Incredible

The narration was so on point! I was taken along for the journey all the way, making me find any excuse to jump in the car to “go pick something up” just so I could listen to a chapter. It’s a clever weaving of 3 generations of women. As Kate Morton is known for her mystery twists, you won’t be disappointed in this well plotted story.

A Great Read

I loved this book. I live in the Adelaide Hills and can relate to all the places. It was interesting trying to locate the setting for the town. I enjoyed all the twists and turns. At the beginning I could never have guessed the outcome.

5 Star Read - A Enjoyable Epic

I cannot recommend this title more highly.

Characters that you will come to know, dislike and understand. How would one write a review without giving away any part of the story; it would not be fair to anyone considering reading this book.

A wonderful story...

I have loved every Kate Morton book, and this was no exception.
The characters are complex in a beautifully written tale of love, loss, truth and home, with many twists and turns.
Brilliant narration (although I did have a couple of amusing moments with the Australian accent - but maybe only Australians would notice).
I truly loved this story so much, that I was disappointed when it finished, as I wanted to hear more.
Highly recommended.

Let down by narration.

This story was exquisite. So intricately put together. Unfortunately I found the terrible attempts at Australian accents very off putting.

One of the best

Homecoming was a great listen. Probably the best I have listened to in a long while. Easy to listen to and the twists and turns made it even more intriguing. Highly recommend.
