Publisher's Summary

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children was the surprise best seller of 2011—an unprecedented mix of YA fantasy and vintage photography that enthralled audiences and critics alike. Publishers Weekly called it "an enjoyable, eccentric read, distinguished by well-developed characters, a believable Welsh setting, and some very creepy monsters."

This second novel begins in 1940, immediately after the first book ended. Having escaped Miss Peregrine's island by the skin of their teeth, Jacob and his new friends must journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. Along the way, they encounter new allies, a menagerie of peculiar animals, and other surprises.

Complete with dozens of newly discovered (and thoroughly creepy) vintage photographs, this new adventure will delight fantasy fans of all ages.

Critic Reviews

"[Heyborne] moves masterfully among the large cast of characters, creating distinct British voices for each of Jacob's peculiar friends. Heyborne's sense of timing, evident pleasure in the material, and ability to thrillingly execute the book's many dramatic moments will keep listeners riveted." (AudioFile)

This narrator did so much better than the last. Enthralled during the whole reading! Cannot wait for the next installation.

So good! 1million x better than the first!

I can't believe how much richer, complex, fast moving and imaginative this story was compared to the first!
The only star I left off was performance as the narrator, while mostly doing a good job had the awful habit of yelling loudly to narrate a characters yelling. I think he must not have thought about the fact that people listen to audio books with headphones and to relax. There are ways to narrate yelling without actually raising his vocal volume to a startling level.
Incredible journey though. Loved every second and can't wait for the third!

Amazing Book!!!

This was an amazing book. I listened to it while going to bed, sitting in the car & doing homework & its an easy book to understand. I would recommend it for 9+ but this book is not great for people who are generally scared of monsters. Overall fantastic book!!!

Captured to near perfection

At first I was a little sceptical because of the voice, but soon found myself immersed in the book.

The Story was good but I didn't like the narrator. Much prefer the narrator on the first of these books.

Pleased again

I found it strange having a different narrator from the first book. But once I got adjusted to it the thought Kirby Heybourne did a fantastic job. Once again, great story!

Wild Ride

Ransom Riggs gives us the second outing in the universe of the Peculiar but don't expect it to be more of the same as the first. Certainly we have the same Peculiar characters we have been introduced to in the first book, but their odyssey takes them on a very circuitous route indeed this time round as they endeavour to save the life of the beloved Miss Peregrine. They get to meet some new Peculiars along the way but be warned, their adventures are not for the faint of heart. This is a dystopian landscape mined with terrors and traps, twists and turns, and for me, satisfying to the last word. Narration by Kirby Heyborne is in the top 10% in terms of quality and listenability, truly professional effort and enhances the book experience. I'm off to indulge in book 3 straight away.

Slow to get going but finishing on a cliffhanger.

I enjoyed this book more than the first. A much better narrator made this one a pleasure to listen too.
The storyline was a it slow to kick off but developed into something I didn't want to end.
