Im Glanz der Polarlichter bereiten sich die Bewohner der isländischen Westfjorde auf das Weihnachtsfest vor. Auf einmal taucht in einem Fischgehege vor der Küste eine mysteriöse Leiche auf. Hildur und Jakob übernehmen den Fall, der schon bald ungeahnte Kreise zieht. Überall auf der Insel kommt es zu Gewalttaten, und Hildur stellt fest, dass ihre Schwester ihr offenbar etwas verschweigt.
