About this listen

Anna's nice comfortable world is in turmoil. Because of their success in destroying the foreign Raiders, Anna, Kris, and Adrian were promoted to full commander, and the project team was disbanded. Kris and Adrian were given NIA offices to manage on Stone Ring and Westar, and Anna is being pressured to move to Eastar to manage the NIA station. That would mean she would have to move away from home and Alexa, whom Anna considers her refuge. In addition, she would be exposed to new people whose reactions to her are always unpredictable because of Anna's red-headed krait and her young age. Worst of all, she would be responsible for managing an NIA office when she has no management experience. And being the youngest commander in the Navy will inevitably cause resentment.

While trying to adjust to her new challenges, Anna discovers two potential perils that threaten the security of the United Alliance of Stars empire. Separately, they are each as dangerous as the Raiders were. Together, they not only threaten the fabric of the empire, but they are exponentially more dangerous to Anna - the bloodhound who discovered the threats and is doggedly pursuing them. If she is to survive, she will require help from her Red Angel.

Repetitive, with very dated technology... but still ok.

Congratulations to the Author who has developed strong, capable women characters in positions of authority.
Two things that I found annoying:
1. Every new character we meet, needs to have a full explanation of Anna’s symbiotic relationship with the snake explained. Repetition ad nauseam.
2. The book seems to be set 100+ years into the future, yet they seem to be using pre Y2K communication technology very primitive computers, that have not developed any further since the 1990’s. It’s like having a future where instead of flying machines they drive horse and buggy.
Despite all that I will progress to the next book, because it was included with my membership.
One more stupid thing.... Has the author heard of the word Mum? Which is what most daughters would use and most mothers would call their child by their name or a diminutive like Annie, or sweetie or darling... daughter just too formal and does not ring true in the context of Anna’s and Alexa’s relationship.

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
