About this listen
Renowned cardiologist Carter Rogers is used to having things under control. His life, his prestigious reputation, his career, his future.
Things he can’t control this time around:
- His meddling grandfather
- His annoying gamer cousin
- Buggy South American jungles
- Being the meat in a feuding cartel sandwich
- Getting kidnapped by a monologuing drug lord
- Falling for his very hot, very mouthy ex-Special Forces bodyguard
In short, Carter’s peaceful, well-planned life has been...hijacked.

got bored with insipid characters
Blurb was enticing, strong characters and storyline seemed enticing but it lost its way early only. what was that rubbish about the cartel leaders brother? it was totally ridiculous and detracted from the potential of the story line.
macho marines/ruthless security company scenario story line needs to support the strong characters. Humor enjoyable eg when Carter gave Riggs a small tin of antibiotic cream to defend themselves and also liked the banter between the team mates

So much potential!
1.5 stars
What happened to the Carter from the rest of the series?!
I was so looking forward to this book!! I've really enjoyed several books of this series, and Carter was my favorite character in the whole series. Sensible. Mature. Highly intelligent. Pragmatic. Loyal. Direct. With a wickedly dry sense of humor and tendency to laugh good-naturedly at everyone around him. Not to mention, unable to settle down, but showing a secret interest in love. I also loved Michael Dean's voice for him. A whole book about him... sign me up!!!
That guy wasn't in this book. This Carter was not Carter and, frankly, after the first couple chapters, he becomes a cardboard, bland, damsel-in-distress. Actually, both MCs are bland, body-guard/client cliches. Lucy Lennox and May Archer can both write amazing characters, but sadly, the MCs in this book are uninteresting, and I struggled to finish the book
HOWEVER.
There was some great potential here. The first couple chapters were a fantastic set up. I loved the cousin. I loved Carter's motivations and the insecurities driving his high-achieving nature. I also loved that it was his need to live up to his family's expectations made him unable to sit still for settle down. Riggs also had a lot of potential at the start, as a fun (and a little shortsighted), marine who can be an asshole when required. If the book had continued in the way of the first few chapters, this book would've been an easy 5 star.
