About this listen
When Felix lands a job taking care of a man recovering from severe injuries, he thinks his life may have just turned around. Anything has to be better than the place he's leaving. There's something about Lane that draws Felix to him and makes him question if this place could finally become a home for him. But when someone begins stalking Felix, he is left to question who Lane is and what actually happened to him.
Together, Felix and Lane will be forced to see just how far they will go to protect each other. Being chased by cops, kidnapping a man, and breaking into a drug operation seems to be his normal since arriving in Lane's life. Felix may be out of his element, but one thing he is sure about is that he doesn't want to leave, even if it costs him his life.

So good!!!
Hilarious, thrilling and suspenseful all in one. I love Felix. He has so much sass, snark and wit, Joel has done an amazing job bringing him to life! Cant wait for more and look forward to see what trouble Felix finds himself in next time!

banter x 10
Hidden in darkness by Alice winters. Love the banter between the main characters. With this it started off to be quite funny and the storyline just grew from there into a cops verses robbers type of book

Push through the middle barrier, it’s worth it
The book starts strong and sucked me in. The banter between the characters starts as excellent, clearly painting a picture of who they are. Felix’s character makes the book what it is: He is adorable.
Unfortunately within a few chapters, there’s an unrealistic escalation of the story and what was enjoyable banter soon becomes repetitive and off putting toxic verbal abuse, ill-disguised as comedy.
However, i thankfully pushed through and a high paced gripping story emerged. Excellent crescendo and ending.
I haven’t been a fan of this narrator’s other works but did enjoy this one, he did a good job differentiating between characters and adding emotion.
Will definitely read the sequel, I’m hooked.

A nice romance / thriller with lots of humour!
This really grew on me. Lane was an undercover cop blinded in the course of duty. Felix is hired to look after him. Lane is angry, Felix is irreverent. A nice romance / thriller with lots of humour!

I really don’t like the narrator
I saw a review that said there banter turned into borderline abuse played for laughs but it was all sarcasm he didn’t want to be treated differently so the dude didn’t. It was weird how they started there relationship but other than that pretty good. Tw for getting beaten up by a bunch of dudes and also a tiny bit of torture and explanations of an abusive family and ppl manipulated into prostitution but none of it is graphic apart from the beating from the bunch of dudes

Enjoyable
Enjoyed this story but it wasn’t on par with the authors other series. Some really funny moments in it but overall not as captivating as other stories, I paused a number of times to listen to other books and then go back. Had the potential to be very good but didn’t quite get there for me

Annoying, not particularly funny and cliched
This sounded good and the reviews were raves. But like so much gay fiction, the alpha is all butch and manly, hard and tough on the outside but a real softy. The sub is a whiny, petulant girl masquerading as a gay man. The humour has all been said before and I found the story silly and sillier as it dragged on. If you want a better written crime novel with a gay detective, look up Mark Lock. He has two featuring the same detective. Neither is full of sex but the stories are better and the detective’s gayness is not as cliched.

Clunky writing
I loved the Hitman’s Guide but it’s hard to believe this is the same writer. I just could not hear “are you ok?” “I’m fine,” or “he said,” one more time. There was also a lot of repetition of words within the same sentence or paragraph. Distracting.
The story itself had promise but things moved too quickly between the two MCs, the humour was not actually funny to me and there was a distinct lack of chemistry between Lane and Felix, who did not feel like fleshed out characters to me.
I usually love Joel Leslie but pauses between speech and “he said,” “I said,” made these more noticeable.
Could not stay within the story at all.
