An old secret, hidden for decades, comes to light, when Diane LeNell agrees to let her doctor use hypnosis. She recalls a memory of her birthmother, a twenty year old woman of Scottish royalty. Lady Mariel Conners dies moments after giving birth to Diane. A Nun at the hospital believes it's a sign from God. She takes the baby into a new room, laying it in the bassinette next to an unconscious woman who delivered a still born baby, that was immediately taken to Mariel's room to make it look like the mother and child died together. The new mother awakens from a cesarean surgery thinking Diane is her baby. While growing up, Diane struggles with complex feelings of abandonment.
