About this listen
Nothing interferes with Shane Hollander's game - definitely not the sexy rival he loves to hate.
Pro hockey star Shane Hollander isn't just crazy talented, he's got a spotless reputation. Hockey is his life. Now that he's captain of the Montreal Voyageurs, he won't let anything jeopardize that, especially the sexy Russian whose hard body keeps him awake at night.
Boston Bears captain Ilya Rozanov is everything Shane's not. The self-proclaimed king of the ice, he's as cocky as he is talented. No one can beat him - except Shane. They've made a career on their legendary rivalry, but when the skates come off, the heat between them is undeniable. When Ilya realizes he wants more than a few secret hookups, he knows he must walk away. The risk is too great.
As their attraction intensifies, they struggle to keep their relationship out of the public eye. If the truth comes out, it could ruin them both. But when their need for each other rivals their ambition on the ice, secrecy is no longer an option...

I love their love story. I wish love stories like these existed in real life too.

Love Shane & Ilya!
Shane and Ilya are pro hockey players and eventual captains of opposing teams. They start hooking up before their rookie season and, like the adorable morons they are, dance around each other for 7 years. Great character development and I enjoy all the supporting characters in Rachel Reid’s books as well.
Looking forward to reading the next installment at the end of the series. These boys deserve their BIG HEA.
The narrator was much better suited to this book as his deep voice worked well with Ilya’s Russian accent.

Perfect fireworks on and off the field!
Always competitive, Pro Hockey opposing team captains, Shane Hollander & Ilya Rozanov, have been rivals for years, each trying to best the other. The press and the crowds love their clashes and aggression, but no one suspects that the two have been lovers for as long as they’ve been rivals. Rachel Reid has produced a strong second book in her Game Changers series. The story is a series of vignettes over many years showing us each of the times Shane and Ilya’s team schedules have landed them in the same city, where they compete then catch a few precious moments with each other - there are always fireworks on and off the field. Both being closeted, they refuse to even entertain they have feelings for each other, let alone any notion of a permanent relationship, until another player openly outs himself and they dare to dream. It’s a compelling character-driven portrait that highlights the pressures facing elite gay athletes. Tor Thom provides excellent audio narration - he voices all characters well, but his deep voice really suits Ilya’s character perfectly.

Enjoyable read
I enjoyed the story of Shane and Ilya. The structure of the story was interesting, reading current events and then going back over how they got to that point and then moving forward.
Having the book written in the third person took some getting used to.
I read on Kindle and read along on Audible. The voice actors did a good job changing up the voices of the characters.

Loved!
I adored Ilya Romanov and the very slow relationship development between Shane & Ilya………but Ilya was the star of this couple for me. He was such a stirrer, and the audio was fabulous to listen to, the narrator did a wonderful performance with Ilya and making his personality shine, I smiled & laughed so many times at something Ilya said or did throughout the storyline.

Loved it!
I had already read the book and knew I’d enjoy reliving this adorable couple’s story again in audio form. I’m still getting used to audiobooks in general so the deep voice of the narrator threw me at first, but, very quickly I came to enjoy his style and way of voicing this story. Really well done!
I’ll be honest, I’m selfish and I need Rachel Reid to write another book about Shane & Ilya. Not sure if she plans too, but in the hope she’s keen, there is definitely more story to tell.

It got better as the story progressed
The beginning of the book was ... a lot. It just felt like we were flying through time following the highlight reel of their sexcapades. Lots and lots of sexcapades with little other substance to the story. I'm glad I waited it out because when they actually started having conversations and developing their relationship, the banter had me smiling like an idiot and I was sucked into the story.
I wasn't a fan of the accents in the book either - the Russian MC and French-accented cameos all ended up sounding very Count Dracula.
