About this listen

Idris Elba and Sabrina Elba present sci-fi mystery thriller Halfway, an Audible Original.

Starring Patricia Allison as Florence, Lenny Henry as Cole, Arinzé Kene as Mark, and George Mackay as Oliver.

Leading the field of artificial intelligence, Halfway, a subsidiary of Soul-Tech, provides customers with the opportunity to digitally upload their minds so that in the eventuality of their death, loved ones will be able to communicate with an AI simulation and gain closure. But at what cost?

A year after her brother Mark’s death, Florence is still consumed by grief. And though her parents encourage her not to dwell on the past, Florence decides to visit Halfway and speak to the simulation of Mark that was created not long before his passing. But instead of putting her mind at ease, speaking with the replica of her brother only unleashes destabilising questions and opens old wounds. Why are Mark’s uploaded memories different from Florence’s? Why are the circumstances surrounding Mark’s death becoming less clear? And what does Halfway have to hide?

Also starring Chizzy Akudolu as Delores, Jeremy Ang Jones as James, Jude Akuwudike as Omar, Sharon D Clarke as Afua, Aurora Dawson-Hunte as Shanice, Kevin N Golding as Jackson, Penny Layden as Anne, Hattie Morahan as Karen, Nneka Okoye as Megan and Grace Saif as Amissha.

Featuring Amelie Abbott, Damola Adelaja, Lizzie Annis, Rachel Atkins, Michelle Asante, Dario Coates, Scarlett Courtney, Faith Edwards, Lucy Havard, Severine Howell-Meri, Asif Khan, Natasha Magigi, Leemore Marrett Jr, George Rextrew, Ash Rizi, Chloe Sommer, Adam Walker-Kavanagh, Sarah Whitehouse, Leah Whittaker and Keith Wickham.

Absolutely brilliant…and disturbing

A convincing and highly disturbing look at where technology could take us in the future. The premise was sound. The story was tightly written. And the whole was expertly interpreted by a terrific cast. I enjoyed it immensely.

So unusual and interesting. And so beautifully done. It kept me spellbound. Highly recommend this story.

Intriguing story

I really enjoyed the whole thing. The concept, acting story. I could see it like watching a mini series.

Not bad, not great

Story was good, and generally well performed, but I struggled with the long bits of heavy breathing, whimpering, banging etc... (was reminiscent of a Monty Python Gumbies sketch)
Also didn't really like the choice of ending.

Excellent!

This is by far my favourite of the new Dolby Atmos immersive stories that Audible has released! The story & performances were engrossing & I didn’t want it to end. Would love to see the authors create a series of Halfway.

Not my style

I kept thinking this might have an interesting twist, but alas..... The effort put into audio was impressive - practically a play. ...bit I didn't find myself warmed, or inspired, intruiged, or even particularly interested...

Couldn’t stop listening right up until til the end!!!

Really enjoyed listening to this audiobook, I found it interesting and kept wondering if it was something I would do if it were around when my husband died 18 years ago because the grief is very real and it does make us desperate to hang on to anything they had, whether it was keeping their favourite jacket it jumper do you can still smell them etc.
I think this would be a great episode for Black Mirror.

Highly recommend,
Nicola, Sth Australia

Great cast

Really well produced and acted with an intriguing storyline for sci fi lovers, would make a fantastic TV show. Can’t wait for the next season (it does have a cliffhanger ending, be warned!) - please Audible don’t leave us hanging too long!! More full cast dramas like this please!!
