About this listen

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: Become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1: Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.

Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem-staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: Being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

Loved it!

Can't wait to listen to the next one.
I really liked the story and the progression, it didn't drag and I liked the flow. Almost every detail had a purpose to the story.
I'm really glad I found this series and I highly recommend.
Also I'm not sure why people think the narration is bad, it sounds like most other books I've listened to. I also listen on higher speed this time 1.95speed, other times higher. The lowest speed I'll go is 1.45, but most of the time I listen on higher speeds.
Listen to the narration and make your own mind up, I find changing the speed helps as a lot of it is slow on normal speel. I like getting through all books I read quicker, but also I'm used to people talking faster.

Good story

Not sure if it was a performance choice or a deliberate directive but there was something unnecessarily sultry about the performance that was quite off putting. At a higher play back speed I was able to ignore it and enjoy the story for the most part.

Great story, narrators voice very distracting.

The narrator got on my nerves. I really enjoyed the storyline and am interested in the other books but don't know if I can handle more of this narrator.

Overall the story is good.

The main character is at times really annoying and I can’t imagine that a 17year old would act the way she does, but ok. The narrator just needs to drop the bedroom voice and then it would be a descent audiobook.

Great world, characters, story

listened in one sitting. loved the world, characters , had my heart racing with fear, hope, love . I normally don't enjoy "school " based stories but this had very little to do with school. The vocalist was fabulous 👌 really made the characters

Different

Kind of like vampires but not, liked the aspect of Greek Gods. A different type of tale, a good change from all the usual supernatural/mythical stories.

Alex is a half blood, she has two options, servitute to the pures or train to become a sentinel - a warrior trained to protect the world from daimons. Pretty easy choice really. Enjoyed the story, Alex was an immature, bad tempered teenager towards the start and made a lot of stupid decisions. Looks like she might be maturing a bit now, with some truths unravelled and a new destiny, its just started to get interesting.

This was a great audiobook!

I have had this book sitting on my bookshelf at home for so long that when I saw it on audible I decided that enough was enough and listened to it instead. I definitely do not regret that decision. The narration in this book was amazing and so was the story itself! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who thinks they might like it. I absolutely loved listening to this and hope that you do too! Enjoy!

Bad narrator, ok story bit too much romance

Personally I prefer less romance, it’s kind of only romance, nothing interesting. The narrator was horrible. Sorry but it’s true. You get used to it but still VERY breathy. Definitely 12+ Not a very good story, it doesn’t say much about the gods. I expected more of this.

Very annoying narrator

Story seems interesting but getting through the narrator is excruciating. I'm generally quite forgiving but this nasal voice whispering the story is testing my patience.
